A Break from Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

Thanksgiving Prep + Hosting Tips
We’re less than five months to the big day, but this week I’m taking a full-blown break from all things wedding. Why" It’s Thanksgiving!

And those who know me know: Thanksgiving is my jam. I actually cook Thanksgiving dinner three to five times a year. And OK, three of those times are for work. I do food writing and I’m the crazy person begging the butcher for turkeys in August so we can have beautiful photos in October/November.
But I host real Thanksgiving twice: on the day of, for Mr. W’s family (we see mine at Christmas) and on the weekend before, for friends—this year we’re expecting 60. And yes, I cook the whole thing. For 60. So I figured I’d take a break from regularly scheduled wedding programming and throw together my top 10Â tips for hosting/cooking/and even pot-lucking Thanksgiving dinner. Because it can be overwhelming if it’s not something you’re used to.
1. Make a timeline WAY in advance. Even if you’re cooking a pretty uncomplicated meal, it helps to have a timeline. When I’m cooking for 60, I break my day out into 15-minute increments, but you don’t need to go that extreme. But make sure to know your timing for the turkey so you know when there’s room to fit other stuff in the oven.
