A Millennial?s Guide to Premarital Counseling
Like many ’90s kids, I am the child of divorced parents. My parents separated when I was 18 and just starting my freshman year of college, but the strife between them started when my brother and I were young. I don?t want to air all their dirty laundry in public, so I?ll simply say that they are both good people who, for better or worse, didn?t work together as a married couple.
After witnessing their conflicts, I knew pretty early in my life that I wanted to take advantage of premarital counseling. Fortunately, Mr. Feather was all for it.
Premarital counseling (and counseling in general) is still taboo in a lot of places. People think that going to counseling means you have a problem, but it?s actually most effective as a preventative measure. It?s a great way to start your marriage off on the right foot by addressing the big issues and getting to hear each other?s point of view when the pressure is off.
