Are you familiar with terrazzo tiles" There’s a good chance you’ve seen these colorful tiles lately…but do you know where they come from" Terrazzo is Italian for ‘terrace,’ and was invented sometime around the 15th century in Venice, when workers were left with odd pieces of marble after completing jobs. Those small marble rocks were put into clay and made for interesting flooring, while using the leftover resources. The style of terrazzo was brought to the US from Europe in the late 1700s, and in the 1970s, it became a very fashionable way to embellish things?there?s your anthropology + history lesson for the day. ;) And, as fashion goes, there?s been a surge of terrazzo today!
