#DetroitWedding Venues: Sindbad’s Restaurant and Marina
Located right on the Detroit River, looking out to Belle Isle, is Sindbad’s. The restaurant has been a Detroit landmark for 67 years, and was the location of my wedding reception.
The family-owned establishment has a large main dining area on the ground floor, and a 3rd floor room with a balcony that is available for rent. The 3rd floor, named the Sohar Room, is a large, open room with a horsehoe-shaped bar in the center, a dance floor area, restrooms, and a wall of windows looking out onto a balcony and the marina.

I had first visited Sindbad’s with my then-fiancee a year before we got engaged. We stopped into the bar one night for an appetizer and a beer. At that time, we agreed that someday we would come back for dinner.
After the engagement, when the hunt for a reception venue was in full swing, I had settled on having the wedding in Detroit, likely the east-side. I remembered visiting Sindbad’s previously, and checked their website to see if they had a banquet room. I found the Sohar Room, and the rest is our wedding reception story….
