Happily Feather After: Cutting the Cake

Wedding Cake Cutting
Our cake tasting was nothing short of amazing, so we were pretty excited to try a bite of Tracy’s creation. Our final choice ended up being one tier of carrot cake (top) and another of vanilla with strawberry ganache (bottom). I wish we’d reversed the flavors and gotten more carrot cake; it was a huge hit and we ran out quickly.
Our cake topper should look familiar: they’re the same flowers N used to make our bouquets. I hate wasting flowers, so I asked N to arrange the clippings that didn’t make the cut on top of the cake.
N hustled everyone into the dining room, and someone from the catering staff handed us a knife. Mr. Feather and I stood there for a few minutes, trying to decide how to cut the cake. Do we cut both tiers" Just one tier" Are we going to screw this up"
Word to the wise: it’s pretty hard to screw up cutting cake. We made two small cuts and hauled the first piece of cake right out of there.
I asked Mr. Feather not to smash cake all over my face, but we did get a little silly and put a dab of icing on each other’s noses.
The night slowly wrapped up to an uneventful close. Our family slowly trickled out until it was just us and a handful of friends standing around the bar on the veranda sipping on drinks. It was almost time for us to close this party down and head for home.
Missed a Feather recap" Catch up below!
We snap some golden hour photos.
