Happily Feather After: Exchanging Vows

Personal Wedding Vows
You don’t need to look further than our vows to get an idea of how different Mr. Feather and I are. I started writing my vows about three months before the wedding. Mr. Feather started his vows two days before and finished/edited them with Best Man B as they were getting ready that morning. Which personally would’ve given me a heart attack, but Mr. Feather works best under a little bit of pressure. And his vows were phenomenal (and also, incredibly funny!).
He drew a beautiful picture of our lives together: from meeting on a park bench in San Francisco (with a little help from OkCupid), to moving across the country (three times), to adopting a dog, to running from a bear (we are still not 100% sure if it was a bear, but it sounded a lot like a bear…always hike with bear spray!).
After a few heartfelt promises, he finished with: In the presence of family and friends, let us create this new family. Our family.
It was a tough act to follow. Mostly because I was a little choked up and a little nervous about reading my vows. Apparently some people give their vows to their officiant to read for them—if I’d known this was an option, I absolutely would’ve lost my nerve and taken it. But I’m really glad I read my vows myself to Mr. Feather, even if my voice was a little wobbly at times.
