Happily Feather After: Getting Pretty
Bride Getting Makeup Done
I tumbled out of the car the morning of our wedding loaded down with three heavy bags of stuff, breakfast and coffee for my mom and grandmother, and Charlie, who decided to forget that he knew how to walk nicely on a leash and dragged me up the walkway. My grandmother had been feeding him pieces of muffin to win him over, and I guess he saw the house and thought, “Thank God, more muffins!”
By this point, I was running about 15 minutes late despite having woken up almost an hour early. Trust me, no matter how prepared you feel, there’s always going to be one thing you wind up forgetting. For me, there were multiple things: my veil, a hair tie, my wallet, and giving Mr. Feather a kiss on my way out, which seemed pretty essential on our wedding day.

I was so lucky to find this sweet early 20th century home for our families to get ready in, with a wood-paneled sitting room and beautifully lit sun room perfect for doing hair and makeup. For now, it was only me, my hair and makeup artist E, my mom, and my grandmother.
After apologizing a million times for being late, I hopped up into E’s chair and let her get to work.

It was E’s idea to put my hair clip on the side, instead of in the back like I’d originally pictured. Our coordinator, N, and our photographer were really smart about making sure that I was always showing off the side with the clip.
