Happily Feather After: Saying Goodbye and Goodnight

End of the Wedding
We ate, we drank, we danced, we caught up with old friends, and we gently shoved cake into each other’s mouths.
And now the celebration of the first day of our marriage was coming to a close.
I feel so…lucky" grateful" all of the above" to have had such a wonderful night with everyone we hold dear. It’s a minor miracle that nearly all our friends and family were able to join us from all over the country, and the memories we made on this day are ones we’ll always treasure.
A few of my married friends told me to “just elope” when we got engaged because that’s what they wished they’d done. Looking back, I’m glad we didn’t take that advice. I wouldn’t trade this time for anything. All the hours I poured into planning our day were well worth it, and I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.
Cleaning up after our wedding felt just like cleaning up after any other party we’d thrown, except with a lot more leftover wine. After we were all finished up, we hopped in an Uber and went to get Mr. Feather’s car from Best Man A’s house. Then we headed to a local karaoke room to sing one song at an after-party some of our friends had organized.
Fittingly, we picked Semisonic’s “Closing Time,” with its repeating chorus of “I know who I want to take me home,” as our last song for the night. Then we drove home, hand in hand, and Mr. Fea...
