How the Sixes Became Mr. and Mrs.: We Jam and We Exit

All photos by the wonderful Robert Gigliotti, unless otherwise specified!
We had feasted and toasted and first-danced, but before people could really let loose, we had to do the parent dances.

My dad and I danced to ?You Can Close Your Eyes? by James Taylor, and Ben and his mom danced to ?In My Life? by the Beatles. Both highly recommended based on length as well as non-sexual language.
The Beatles song was a compromise, but it worked out great.
Then it was time to jam. Robert worked his magic and got some great photos in a dark-ass room, and Rachel played a nice mix of different eras and genres—but heavy on the late ’90s classics, naturally. #middleschooldances
This is how we do it.
Yes, that?s a bride drinking a Bud Heavy. #class

There is so much happening in this photo. I love it.
The best man has a ?Billy Jean? routine. It was almost like seeing MJ himself.
The night flew by, and when Rachel played ?Kiss from a Rose? (our agreed-upon signal), Ben and I knew our departure was imminent. I danced with my oldest friends to the song that was my very favorite in sixth grade, trying to take it all in.

And then it was time. In lieu of a fancy exit, Ben and I had requested that the last song be—what else—Mariah Carey?s ?All I Want for Christmas is You.?

This moment is one of my very favorite ...
