How to Find a Secular Officiant

Finding an officiant was pretty high on my list once we secured our wedding date. No officiant, no ceremony, no wedding, right" So Mr. Feather and I set out to find a relatable non-denominational officiant with a great speaking voice who was comfortable performing a secular ceremony.

First, several folks I know who wanted a secular wedding asked a friend to get ordained online and got them to do the job. If you?re looking to go this route, check the laws in your state/country and make sure ministers ordained online are allowed to preside over wedding ceremonies. This is legal in Washington state, but we decided not to pursue this idea since our friends aren?t the type who get excited about public speaking.
Also worth noting is that some religious organizations allow their ministers to preside over secular ceremonies. Unitarian Universalists are one such group, as are Humanists.
As for us" We found our officiant through good old-fashioned Google. I probably Googled something along the lines of ?secular wedding officiant Seattle? and then scrolled through the first five pages of results. The best officiant isn?t always the one who is best at SEO, so you might not want to go with the first search result.
We reached out to six Seattle based officiants, met with two in person, and finally narrowed down our choice to one. In the end, we made our decision based on a few factors.
