São Lourenço do Barrocal is a hotel located in a vast estate that has been in the same family for over 200 years. It was an ancient little farming village where about 50 families lived. Nowadays with no changes on its original essence, this luxury hotel is surrounded by ancient holm oaks, olive groves, vineyards and many ?barrocais? (the huge outcrops dotting the landscape), which represent some of the most monumental natural features of Alentejo. The only ?new? added buildings created from scratch were the wine house, the biological vegetable garden and the pool, which were designed by the distinguished Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto Moura, owner of the 2011 Pritzker Award.
