Lessons Learned from Engagement Photos

In case you weren’t yet aware, Mr. Eel and I are not professional models. As you may or may not have been able to tell from the pictures I’ve posted thus far, we tend to be goofy in front of a camera and rarely take “serious” pictures.

This is why it was important that we take engagement photos before the wedding. I thought it would help us build a rapport with our photographer and also build our confidence in front of a camera. We’ve never had “professional” photos taken before, unless you count old school Sears portraits taken when we were babies. The results of our engagement photos helped us identify a few things we need to “work” on before the wedding.
Exhibit A: Painful Laugh Face. For some reason my LOL face makes me look like I’m crying out in pain. It may not look like it, but I was actually having a lot of fun while taking our engagement photos and my laughter was totally natural. I would liken my ugly-laugh face to Kim Kardashian’s ugly-cry face.
Exhibit B: Wide-Eyed Surprised Face. I have no idea what I was doing in this photo. My best guess is I was trying to reduce my skinny Asian eye by opening my eyes wider. Note to self: Embrace the skinny Asian eye!
