When we decided to hold the wedding in Minot, we both knew this meant a lot of our most important people wouldn’t be able to make it. Our grandparents, our elderly friends and family, people who just can’t swing a big international trip right now. I accepted early on that we wouldn’t have the large, filled wedding that my friends whose families were both local have had. While I know everyone would be there if they could be, I understand that it’s just not feasible for everyone.
To try to make those who can’t come feel like they’re welcomed and missed and a part of the day, we’ve decided to live broadcast our ceremony. The church we’re using broadcasts their sermon every week, and is set up with WiFi, a camera, and an audio connection. All we have to do is go in early and connect to our website, and it will be recorded for people to see. It won’t be super professional; there probably won’t be anyone manning the camera, so it will stay just focused on the front and the sound will be pretty basic recording, but it’s something when otherwise there would be nothing.
There’ve been a few people who’ve been very sad to call us and tell us they can’t make the wedding, and it’s been kind of nice to inform them that they can still see the wedding in some form.
