There are so many festive wedding possibilities and fall weddings are so colorful! I just love the way the rich browns, deep reds, and bright yellows come together in fall wedding décor. Like I?ve said before, I like to think of new ways to utilize natural materials if I can. If you?re like me, you?ve been seeing acorns everywhere.
That?s why this idea was a no brainer. I?ve seen crafters do some pretty neat things with acorns and after all, they are fall?s (and squirrel?s) favorite accessory. What I thought might be fun and something I haven?t seen before, are acorn keychains. I thought this could work as a really cute and fall themed wedding favor. So I gathered up some acorns and experimented. The end results (I think) turned out great. Go outside and gather some acorns and we?ll get started.
Supplies:

Acorns
Toothpicks
Acrylic paints
Paint Brush
Glue Gun
Embroidery floss
Key chain rings
Small jewelry rings
Acrylic clear coating spray

 

Step 1: Get your acorns ready for painting by drying them out. There are many different methods to this, but you can just stick them in the oven at a low temp with the door cracked for a couple hours. This will ensure your acorns won?t mold or creep out your wedding guests with unwanted inhabitants.
After drying, the tops will most likely come off of the acorn. This is perfect. We actually want the top to come off for this project so if they didn?t pop off during the drying process, go ahead and pull them apart.
