After literally tying the knot, our ceremony was reaching its close. We just had a few more words to say and things to do before walking out of the sanctuary together as husband and wife.
Parting Words & Prayer
Steve gave us some parting advice about marriage, an excerpt of which is below.
Love is not a feeling, love is an action. The vows you?ve exchanged are special, and they?re to be remembered. Vows are not chains that bind you or ropes that tie you. Vows are the glue that help you cleave together at all times.Â
Next, he wrapped up with a prayer, which included for us to treat each other fairly and as equals, to be patient with each other, to find new joy in each other every day, and to find happiness in the Lord.

We looked at each other, like, “Are we supposed to kiss"” I had never explicitly told Steve we wanted a first kiss as husband and wife to be part of the ceremony (I just assumed it would be a thing), and I thought fleetingly for a second that maybe Church of Christ wedding services don’t always include a first kiss.
