Traditional Parent Dances

When it came to a father-daughter dance and a mother-son dance, I was in the camp that we could take them or leave them. As I already established, dancing is really not my ish. In fact, we thought we could probably get away with not doing it if we incorporated time for us to get the sweet father-daughter photos together before the ceremony, instead of having a father-daughter dance at the reception.
However, it was very important to Mr. Blue Moon and his mom to have a mother-son dance, and my mom was a little bit crushed disappointed at the prospect of Blue Dad and me skipping this particular tradition. So as you can see, we were totally outnumbered, and the parent dances were on. The only decision we had left to make was which song to embarrass ourselves dance to. We ended up going with “Soulshine,” by the Allman Brothers Band. It’s Blue Dad’s favorite band, and we figured the lyrics are at an acceptable level of sappiness for this type of thing.
We made it through without stepping on each other’s feet, we sang some of the lyrics from the song, and we laughed a lot at ourselves. It was fun, and definitely a great moment with Blue Dad. I’m glad that we ended up with a traditional father-daughter dance, even if it took some prodding from the moms.
