When I first got engaged, I pulled every wedding magazine off of the shelves, eager to start planning. While I’d never been the kind of person to daydream about my wedding day, the first thing I couldn’t resist doing was figuring out what kind of dress I was going to wear.
While it was fun to start narrowing down what I liked and disliked, the one thing that was frustrating was having no idea what these dresses would look like on me. I’m 5″2′, of a thicker set, and of course, not a single model in the magazines looked the way I did. I was clueless for so long, and of course, the rational thing to do was to actually go and try some dresses on. But being the researcher that I was, I really wanted to have a decent idea as to what a dress would look like on me before I wasted my own time trying it on. I also wanted to avoid the crushing ego blow of seeing the perfect dress on a model, and realizing that it looked absolutely terrible on me. I wanted to go into my first fitting prepared, so I turned to Weddingbee and the boards to find as many real brides in wedding dresses as I could. Exhaustive research proved to be a success, as I started to see other brides with similar body types to mine, and what looked good on them.
