Designing Wedding Bands
I talked a little bit about how we picked out my engagement ring, and almost a year later, we?re back for more jewelry store adventures. This time, wedding bands are on our radar.
Unfortunately, we couldn?t go back to the same family jeweler in L.A. where we got my solitaire, but a friend recommended a custom family jeweler based in Seattle. We went to check them out on a sunny Saturday morning to hopefully pick out a wedding band for Mr. Feather and a band to match my engagement ring.
We decided to start with the Mr. Feather?s band. I was pretty excited to see what he would choose since, like me, he isn?t much of a jewelry person. The only criteria he had in mind was 1.) he liked the look of yellow gold, and 2.) he wanted to avoid any metals that couldn?t be cut off his finger in an emergency. Morbid but valid. After putting on a few yellow gold bands, he decided that they were a little yellow for his taste. He settled on a 14 karat white gold band with a criss-cross matte finish that has kind of a yellow sheen in certain lighting. I think we spent more time debating the width than we spent picking a design.

The downside to matte bands like these is that we?ll have to go back every six months or so to get it refinished. And the upside is that I?ll want to get my rings cleaned around that time anyway, so it won?t be a big deal to stop back in and have everything done at the same time.
