Rustic Mennonite Wedding in Kitchener-Waterloo

Dan and Meg’s wedding at a family farm in Ontario had many DIY elements. The bride designed the wedding invitations by hand. Her dad barbecued the meal. A friend baked pies. There was someone’s talent and hard work behind just about everything. And to top it off, amazing photographer Wendy Shepherd was there to capture the special moments and gorgeous rustic details.
The Couple:
Dan and Meg
The Wedding:
Private Residence, Ontario, Canada
From the bride: My dress inspired by antique dresses from the early 1900s. I wanted something simple and elegant I could easily walk around in on the farm. I found most commercial dresses way to over the top.
Processional: The Winner Is by devotcka (instrumental) by a local old time band
Recessional: Down by the Riverside (also known as “Ain’t Gonna Study War No More” and “Gonna lay down my burden” (instrumental) by local old time band
From the couple: We personalized our wedding by incorporating a foot washing — an old tradition in the Mennonite church we attend.
From the couple: We gave handmade seed starting kits of a native flower to symbolize new beginnings. We also liked the idea of giving something people that would remind them of our day for years to come.
