The Time I Almost Ruined a Proposal

One of the most incredible things about Mr. Wishbone is how well he travels. He’s organized, has a good sense of direction, and—most importantly—is adventurous. He’ll stop anywhere, try anything, and has no problem letting us get completely lost exploring a new place. And traveling together really strengthened us as a couple.
So when he turned to me one morning and said, “Let’s go to Sydney in two weeks,” I was into it. We’re last minute travelers, so I didn’t think twice about a crazy last minute international adventure. And while we’d been talking about getting engaged for a while, the thought of a proposal in Sydney never crossed my mind. As far as I knew, he didn’t have a ring. Turns out, the proposal almost didn’t happen.

We weren’t planning on being in Sydney long—only three days on the ground (and one on each end for travel). I didn’t feel like I could take the days from work, so we made the most of the time we had. ESPECIALLY on day one, where Mr. Wishbone planned a seriously full day. Bike riding around town, lots of sightseeing and walking, a climb up the towers on the Harbour Bridge. It was an AMAZING way to see things, but there was one thing he didn’t think of: I’m CRANKY when I’m tired. And after 14 hours with a baby crying one row back, I was tired.
