Why We Aren?t Doing Welcome Bags

Ninety-five percent of our guests are from out of town, and guess what" There will be no welcome bags waiting for them at their hotel.
Welcome bags are one of the things that modern brides are ?supposed? to do that I can?t wrap my head around. I?ve gotten a few over the years, and while the wedding-branded bottled water and little packages of Goldfish crackers were nice to have, I?ve never gotten something in a wedding welcome bag that made me scream ?THIS! I NEEDED THIS THING!?

But, Miss Feather, you might be thinking, don?t you want your guests to feel welcome" Don?t you want to make sure they have a $1 pair of sunglasses on hand in case they forgot to pack their Ray-Bans"
First, I can see why they call them ?welcome? bags. It is nice to receive something from the couple when you arrive that lets you know that they appreciate you traveling hundreds or thousands of miles to witness their wedding. And I think they can be important if your wedding is in a relatively remote location or your guests are staying for more than two or three days.
But our welcome lunch (location and almost every other detail TBD) the day before the wedding will pretty much cover the welcoming aspect, and most of our guests are just staying for the weekend, in a city where hair ties, sunglasses, and Ibuprofen are plentiful.
