Working with Friendors: A Primer

Friendor (n.)
A friend who provides a service for your wedding or event, typically for free or less than they normally charge.
I?ve been pretty adamant about how our guests are our first priority, but guess what" The Feather wedding will be including a few friendors.
Like the bees that have come before me, I didn?t come to the conclusion that we should use a friendor over someone we have a strictly professional relationship with lightly. It?s a tricky decision, one that folks like Mrs. Hummingbird, Mrs. Phone Booth, and Mrs. Crab also debated. For us, that debate came down to a balance between cost, our friends’ enthusiasm to help/how much helping would detract from their enjoyment of the wedding day, and how well our priorities matched to the product we would be receiving. For example, we decided early on that we wanted to hire a string quartet or harpist to play at the wedding ceremony in lieu of having a DJ at the reception.
